Daily Agenda
Day 1: Setting the Stage
Opening Remarks
- Welcoming speech and outline of the week's objectives.
- Collaboration norms and some scoping
Project Overview
- A couple of project pitches to get the synchrony juices flowing before digging in a bit more and trying to see what could be broken out into subgroups.
Day 2-4: Deep Dives
Projects emerge
-
We came up with a total of 5 projects that seemed worthy to push forward, and the rest of the week was spent in subgroups, coming back together to discuss hurdles and ideas.
-
All projects have a GitHub repo associated, and will be made public when group lead(s) deem appropriate (but certainly on publication of the corresponding manuscript).
-
Somewhere in here we went for a hike as well, which was lovely. Lots of teambuilding, a good amount of coffee, and lots of science.
Day 5: Roadmap and Closure
Project Roadmap
-
GitHub organization is there and projects are flowing. Made plans to continue virtual meetings every month.
-
A GitHub project board will be used to keep track of each individual project. Some conversations will take place there, but more will take place in monthly meetings and through periodic emails.
Closing Remarks
- The team is amazing. I (Tad Dallas) took a lot of care (with a huge help from Lauren Shoemaker) in making sure that we had a good group of different career stages and experiences to create a situation where we could really push forward on projects spanning community ecology, theoretical ecology, policy, and climate science. I left a 3 month old baby at home to attend the first meeting (thanks to ESIIL for helping with childcare!) and it was a great reminder of the fun of science after being a bit removed from it.
