Data
EdgeSS will synthesize high-frequency data from the Sage edge computing platform—a national network of edge-enabled sensor nodes—with existing monitoring data from NEON, AirNow, and citizen science initiatives such as iNaturalist. Sage nodes are field-deployable, GPU-enabled units equipped with pan-tilt-zoom and insect-monitoring cameras, microphones, meteorological instruments, and air quality sensors. By processing data on-site, Sage enables real-time detection of fast-changing environmental events and streams processed outputs to researchers and platforms without delay.
Our three focal systems span the full range of Sage edge-sensing capabilities, including visual, acoustic, meteorological, and air quality sensors. The working group will develop and test synthesis workflows that integrate Sage-derived edge data with continental-scale ground-truth observations.
